Uspenski Cathedral is the largest orthodox church in Western Europe. With its golden domes and red brick facade is a characteristic point of the city. Cathedral is located in the waterfront area and near Market Square. Nearby is the main east-west street in the city, colloquially known as “Aleksi”. Another highlight of the city is Railway Square. The south side is formed of the Ateneum, classical art museum. To the west side are two ornate entrances to Central Station – a bigger one for public use, and a smaller one exclusively for the President. And to the north side features the Finnish National Theatre. Excavated directly into solid rock, Church in The Rock is one of the most popular tourist attractions. Helsinki offers great possibilities for outdoor activities and relaxation. Just check out the waterfront area near Market Square. And visit one of the many parks. Like Kaivopuisto, a beautiful park by the sea in the southernmost part of the city. Or Toolonlahti, a bay surrounded by a nice and dotted with attractions such as the Concert Hall and the National Opera. Hietaniemi Beach is a good place to be on sunny days. If you like shopping you can do the old fashioned way at Old Market Hall or modern style in one of the many shopping malls, like Kamppi Center. In 1952 Helsinki hosted the Summer Olympics and still holds many of the sports facilities, such as: The Olympic Stadium with its impressive 72m high tower. The tower is open for visitors and offers impressive views of the city. ----------------------------------------------------- Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYTtl9EEkJaDWJgIdX40-Cg?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Travel.Around.The.World.0/ email: theworld.travelaround@gmail.com Senate Square, Lutheran Cathedral, Statue of Alexander II, University of Helsinki, Government Palace: https://goo.gl/maps/5RQB39MbWZn Uspenski Cathedral: https://goo.gl/maps/L46iTG5Y3xA2 Waterfront Area, Market Square, Old Market, Czarina's Stone: https://goo.gl/maps/35BTkAyt2z12 Aleksanterinkatu: https://goo.gl/maps/SjTrK5EiCSB2 Railway Square, Ateneum, Center Railway Station, National Theatre: https://goo.gl/maps/NaEkyBmkioG2 Church In The Rock: https://goo.gl/maps/xqhiSjARtkv Kaivopuisto: https://goo.gl/maps/zYQ8tK1cE8U2 Toolonlahti: https://goo.gl/maps/H2HPvxuM6TD2 Hietaniemi Beach: https://goo.gl/maps/9kJNdVEZvDC2 Kamppi Center: https://goo.gl/maps/QntXB8YE8p42 Olimpic Stadium: https://goo.gl/maps/yRwSUTqPLQH2 Travel, Travel Around The World, Helsinki, Finland, Capital, Travel to Helsinki, Visit Helsinki, What to see in Helsinki, Best places in Helsinki, Top best things to do in Helsinki, Where to go in Helsinki, Top best places to visit in Helsinki, Interesting places in Helsinki, Travel to Finland, Visit Finland, What to see in Finland, Best places in Finland, Top best things to do in Finland, Where to go in Finland, Top best places to visit in Finland, Interesting places in Finland Intro & Outro: http://videohive.net/user/IDsains

Helsinki citizen art in metro tunnels - Ole hyvä Helsinki Helsinki metro stations will be enlivened by photos taken by Helsinki residents to represent atmospheres in city districts. The City of Helsinki has lent more than 200 large advertising boards behind tracks for use by residents at the Ruoholahti, Railway Station, Sörnäinen, Itäkeskus and Kontula metro stations. The works show the perceptions of especially children and young people of their city. The Railway Station area and Kontula were photographed by young people hired by the City of Helsinki for summer jobs, and the exhibits at the Itäkeskus and Ruoholahti metro stations were created by 7–14 year olds who attended a photography camp organized by the Finnish Museum of Photography. The exhibit at the Sörnäinen metro station was created at several open workshops at City of Helsinki service centres, city events and other meetings. The exhibit creators at these meetings ranged in age from toddlers to the elderly. “By lending the advertising space to residents, we can enliven the metro stations and express their individual character. At the same time, the stations come to play stronger roles in the identity of their neighbourgoods and residents,” says Elina Norrena, Head of Service Development and Communications at Helsinki City Transport. The City of Helsinki wishes to present the experiences and visions of Helsinki residents increasingly markedly in the city space and otherwise. More atmospheres of city districts will be collected during the autumn in the form of videos that can be viewed on the Helsinki-kanava web channel. Share your own Helsinki with us: oma.helsinkikanava.fi. This pilot project is organized by the Helsinki City Executive Office in cooperation with Helsinki City Transport, the Youth Department and Cultural Office. The patron artists in the project were Heidi Lunabba, Kastehelmi Korpijaakko, Tekla Inari and Patrik Rastenberger. In some ways it may be a good thing as it was once full of tourists coming from the cruise ships but now locals are returning to this one for lunch and food shopping. With only a few days left in Helsinki the first place I wanted to go was the Helsinki market or kauppatori in Finnish and salutorget in Swedish. The Old Market Hall (Vanha Kauppahalli) was originally by waterfront but needed to be repaired so it was moved outside the downtown core. In some ways it may be a good thing as it was once full of tourists coming from the cruise ships but now locals are returning to this one for lunch and food shopping. The Old Market Hall in the Southern Harbor will remain closed until next year due to renovation. During the renovation the merchants of the Old Market Hall can be found at the Hietalahti Market Hall. Along with the move many of the merchants have expanded their business and opened a restaurant in connection to the stall. The fully renewed 110-year-old Hietalahti Market Hall will also be the first market hall to offer stands to pop up stores. The aim is to have a pop up store in the Hietalahti Market Hall that could change on a monthly basis. The new Helsinki Market is located in Hietalahti Market Hall. Originally built in for food shopping it has since been many things including Finland's first organic market hall and most recently an antique and art hall. Those returning to Helsinki Market and looking for the old vendors, will be happy to see the same merchants are available along with a number of pop-up stores. The popular soup restaurant Soppakeittio has a prominent place and everyone is raving about the new oyster bar. Täysin uudistettu 110-vuotias Hietalahden Kauppahalli tulee olemaan ensimmäinen kauppahalli, joka tarjoaa kojuja pop up --myymälöitä varten. Tavoitteena on saada Hietalahden Kauppahalliin kuukausittain vaihtuva pop up --myymälä. Uusi Helsingin Tori sijaitsee Hietalahden Kauppahallissa. Alunperin tori rakennettiin ruokaostoksia varten, mutta torilla on ollut monenlaista toimintaa, kuten Suomen ensimmäinen orgaanisten tuotteiden kauppahalli ja antiikki- ja taidehalli. Vanhoja myyjiä Helsingin Torilta etsivät tulevat olemaan iloisia nähdessään, että monet myyjistä toimivat nykyään pop up --myymälöillä. Suosittu sopparavintola Soppakeittiö sijaitsee hyvällä paikalla, ja kaikki ylistävät uutta osteriravintolaa.

Enso-Gutzeit Building, Helsinki, Finland Architect: Alvar Aalto 1959-1962 The Enso-Gutzeit Building was, and is, the headquarters of one of Finland's largest pulp and paper companies – Enso-Gutzeit Oy then, and Stora Enso Oyj today. The building occupes an imposing site at the waterfront at the end of the Esplanade, with the Russian Orthodox Church behind. In this position its low, regular profile with the long loggia on the roof, have tones of Venetian palace. The facade is made up of square windows with wooden frames deeply set into white and grey-blue marble surrounds. While superficially similar to many more mundane concrete office blocks since, the Enso-Gutzeit building stands out for its detailing, its materials, and the complex geometry hidden behind the formal front facade. Except for the roof-storey, the plan of the office floors is so arranged that the large rooms occur on the outside and can be subdivided according to needs. The subsidiary rooms lie on both sides of the central lobby connecting with the offices. The dining room is on the top floor.
